98% in Leinster say volunteering makes them happier
People across Leinster were today rallied to get involved in Ireland’s first National Volunteering Week which takes place from May 14 – 20.
Last year more than 10,000 volunteers participated in hundreds of charity and community projects across the country on National Day of Volunteering.
Following five successful National Day of Volunteering campaigns, this year the campaign is being expanded to seven days, making it easier for volunteers, organisations and companies to get involved.
The flagship national project for NVW 2012 is a National Inland Waterways Clean up, with local events organised in each area.
In Meath, we will have river cleanups in Trim on Tuesday 15th at 1.30pm - meeting at the Garda Station, and an evening session at 7pm, in conjunction with Trim Tidy Towns.
In Navan, Meath River Rescue (with help from Meath Youth Federation) will lead a clean up at Navan Ramparts from 1.30pm on Wednesday 16th –meeting at public car park at Spicers at 1.30pm.
All Volunteers are welcome.
We also invite any Meath community and voluntary organisations to run an event to celebrate the national week of volunteering.

Meath Womens Refuge & Community Artist Mark Smith launch their latest community arts projects ‘April Showers Brings Forth May Flowers’.
Mark explains….
This old wise saying informs us that from a negative you can gain a positive. It places in our minds that with a little nurturing we get to experience the beauty of nature in all its glory, splendour and vibrancy, in the form of flowers upright and proud. This statement we believe holds true for Meath Women's Refuge, an organisation based in the community and delivering a range of needed services to women experiencing abuse in Navan, County Meath.

Elect a President!
Elect a President for Meath!
Many Faces of Meath (of which Meath Volunteer Centre is a founding member) are running a fun online election campaign to select a President of Meath. The game is part of Social Inclusion week and challenges us in terms of our perceptions and actions in recognising those in our community who experience isolation from the community on a regular basis. Click on www.manyfacesofmeath.webs.com to play the game, and hopefully learn a little more about the socially excluded in Meath.
